Hace algunos d\u00edas, la investigadora adjunta del Centro de Investigaci\u00f3n en Tecnolog\u00edas para la Sociedad (C+) de la Facultad de Ingenier\u00eda, Mar\u00eda Estrella Alcam\u00e1n, particip\u00f3 en el \u201cXLIV Congreso Chileno de Microbiolog\u00eda\u201d en la ciudad de La Serena. El evento, es organizado a\u00f1o a a\u00f1o por la Sociedad de Microbiolog\u00eda de Chile (SOMICH), la que trabaja sobre diferentes campos de la microbiolog\u00eda en general, cl\u00ednica, ambiental, industrial, alimentaria, agr\u00edcola y veterinaria.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En el congreso, Mar\u00eda Estrella estuvo a cargo de exponer en la charla \u201cDiversidad de la comunidad microbiana de nieve antes y despu\u00e9s de nevadas en la Pen\u00ednsula Ant\u00e1rtica Occidental\u201d, la que ten\u00eda como objetivo conocer la comunidad de bacterias que est\u00e1n presentes en la nieve en dos lugares geogr\u00e1ficamente distantes en la Ant\u00e1rtica y con caracter\u00edsticas antropog\u00e9nicas diferentes.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Durante su presentaci\u00f3n, la investigadora del laboratorio Envirohealth Dynamics del C+ pudo demostrar que s\u00ed existen diferencias entre los lugares que son intervenidos por los seres humanos, por ejemplo, donde se encuentran la bases, versus los que no. En esta misma l\u00ednea, Alcam\u00e1n recalc\u00f3 la importancia en relaci\u00f3n a la contribuci\u00f3n de diversidad de bacterias provenientes de las nevadas, lo que quiere decir que existen componentes del aire que se est\u00e1n depositando en la nieve y de los cuales todav\u00eda no se tienen mayores estudios.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En relaci\u00f3n a su participaci\u00f3n en el Congreso, Mar\u00eda Estrella se\u00f1al\u00f3 que \u201cexponer en esta actividad es poder dar a conocer mi investigaci\u00f3n con otras personas que estudian la microbiolog\u00eda en diferentes ambientes. Es una gran oportunidad de mostrar lo que se hace en la Ant\u00e1rtica, toda la log\u00edstica que hay detr\u00e1s y los aspectos de importancia para el ecosistema polar. Adem\u00e1s, este congreso es una instancia para recolectar nuevas ideas, sugerencias y tambi\u00e9n nuevas colaboraciones\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Como conclusi\u00f3n, Mar\u00eda Estrella sostuvo que los pr\u00f3ximos pasos y desaf\u00edos de esta investigaci\u00f3n, ser\u00edan estudiar c\u00f3mo se relacionan estas comunidades de bacterias en lugares contaminados antropog\u00e9nicamente y los que no y tambi\u00e9n la relaci\u00f3n que existe con el aire (sus metabolismos, su contribuci\u00f3n y aporte al ecosistema).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
